Pediatric speech and language therapy

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy supports how your child understands others and expresses themselves — whether that is first words, being understood by people outside the family, or having a way to say what they want.

What this therapy supports

  • Understanding what is said and following what is going on
  • Building vocabulary and putting words together
  • Speech sounds and being understood by unfamiliar listeners
  • Conversation, play and connecting with other children
  • Feeding, chewing and swallowing where that is a concern

Signs your child might benefit

None of these mean something is wrong. They are simply the things families often notice before getting in touch.

  • Your child is still learning to say their first words
  • People outside the family often cannot understand them
  • Following instructions or answering questions is hard
  • They find it difficult to tell you what they want or how they feel
  • They are frustrated by not being understood

What a session looks like

Communication grows fastest in moments a child actually cares about, so sessions are built around games, books and activities your child enjoys. Your speech-language pathologist follows their lead and builds language into it.

We work with you on what to do between sessions — how to leave space for a response, how to model the next step up, and how to make room for every kind of communication your child already uses.
