How therapy works
Your Journey Starts Here!
Seeking therapy for your child can feel like a big step, but you don't have to navigate it alone. At Welldom, we've made the process simple and supportive — from your first phone call to celebrating your child's progress. Here's what you can expect when you partner with us.
Connect
Let's Get to Know Your Family
Every family's story is unique. During your initial conversation with our office staff, we'll listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and help determine whether an evaluation is the right next step.

Evaluate & Create
Understanding Your Child's Unique Strengths and Developing an Individualized Plan
Our evaluations are child-centered, play-based, and individualized. The evaluation process includes a 60-minute in-person visit with your child and family, followed by a 30-minute family meeting, either in person or by video conference.
During Your Evaluation
Your child plays, and we watch what they can do. Depending on what you've come to us for, that might mean movement and balance, hands and fine motor skills, communication, or how they manage a busy room. We use standardised assessments where they're useful, but most of what we learn comes from watching your child do the things children do.
How to Prepare
Bring anything that helps us understand your child — previous reports, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), notes from a teacher, or a list of the questions you keep meaning to ask. If you have none of that, come anyway. Nothing is required.
Preparing Your Child
Keep it simple and true. Something like “we're going to a place with lots of toys, and someone is going to play with you” is usually plenty. There's no test to pass and nothing to practise beforehand. If your child needs to take their time warming up, that's expected — we plan for it.
Your Family Meeting
Afterwards we sit down together and talk through what we saw, in plain language. You'll leave knowing what we found, what we'd suggest, and why — with goals that matter to your family rather than goals that only make sense on paper. If you want to think it over, that's completely fine.

Grow
Meaningful Learning Through Play
Every therapy session is designed around your child's interests and strengths. Therapy is engaging, relationship-based, and purposeful, helping children develop the skills they need to participate more fully in everyday life. Most therapy sessions are 50 minutes long, in our fully equipped Pleasanton clinic — a welcoming, sensory-rich and safe environment where children can learn, explore and grow through meaningful play.
Family Partnership
You know your child better than we ever will, and the hours between sessions are where most of the growth happens. We'll show you what we're working on and how it fits into your ordinary week — mealtimes, the school run, the park, bedtime. Not homework, just small things that make everyday life work better.

Celebrate
Every milestone matters
Progress looks different for every child. Together, we'll regularly review your child's goals — typically every three months — celebrate achievements, and adjust the therapy plan as your child continues to grow.
When your child has met their goals
We'll work with you to develop a thoughtful transition plan. This may include updating your home program, providing recommendations for continued success, and preparing a discharge summary to help your child maintain the skills they've developed.
